LeeWay Service Center Surpasses Expectation - November 10, 1998 --The LeeWay Service Center has completed the renewal process for the new year, as of Wednesday November 4th the Service Center had processed all renewals received. Theresa Ryan, Service Center Manager said, "Compared to last year when we had to physically issue transponders, this has been a much easier process". Anytime you have almost 40,000 transactions, you are bound to have a few issues to deal with. We are very pleased with the way the public worked with us in getting the few problems that developed resolved, and with the way the Service Center staff handled this crunch time. Renewals were up with the Service Center processing 7,441 more renewals in October of 1998 than during the 1996 renewal process which was handled by the eight tax collector locations throughout Lee County. The 1996 renewal period is not used as a comparison because it was atypical due to the transition from stickers to transponders. 1998 was also a year of fine tuning the toll collection system. The reliability of the system has continued to increase and is now at 99.8%, meaning 99.8% of all transponders are read at the toll plazas. If a patron is experiencing any problems we urge them to call the service center at 533-9297.
