Variable Pricing Inauguration Planned for August 3, 1998

FORT MYERS , FL, July 14, 1998 --Lee County Officials have announced that the long awaited Variable Pricing Program will go into effect on the Midpoint Memorial and Cape Coral Bridges beginning Monday, August 3, 1998 at 9:00 a.m.. Under the program, patrons with a LeeWay tag or transponder who have established a prepaid account will pay half price tolls during the Variable Pricing times. The Variable Pricing discount times are: 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding the following observed holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bridge travelers are encouraged to obtain a transponder and set up a prepaid account as soon as possible so they can participate in the Variable Pricing Program and enjoy reduced tolls. The refundable security deposit will be waived until August 17, 1998. Businesses are also encouraged to offer alternative work policies, which allow their employees to participate in Variable Pricing. Alternative work policies can include flex time, job sharing, telecommuting, and part-time work arrangements. These policies could have big payoffs, particularly in the area of retaining workers, reducing stress and increasing production, and will reduce the cost of the employee's commute. The benefits of Variable Pricing will be reaped by everyone, not just the commuters. The whole Lee County community will benefit from reduced pollution, reduced gas consumption, reduced traffic congestion on the bridges, reduced need for new roads and greater protection of green spaces. AThe Variable Pricing Program is a winner any way you approach it,@ says Lee County Commissioner John Albion.
